Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)
How I Help as an SLP?
I assess swallowing function through clinical and instrumental evaluations (FEES & MBSS) and create a personalized treatment plan to enhance safety and efficiency. My approach includes:
- • Comprehensive Assessment to identify swallowing deficits.
- • Targeted Exercises to improve muscle coordination.
- • Key Maneuvers for safer swallowing.
- • Practical Strategies for eating and drinking.
- • Multidisciplinary Collaboration with healthcare teams.
Through therapy, individuals can regain safer and more comfortable swallowing in daily life.
Dysphagia affects safe swallowing due to neurological, structural, or age-related factors, leading to malnutrition and aspiration risks. It includes oral (chewing difficulty), pharyngeal (food stuck in the throat), and esophageal (blockage in the esophagus) dysphagia.
